Dark Goddess Regina 2006 ...there was a wonderful conflict over who, among the 100% Roach-infested PCs, got to sacrifice Regina Sutton to the Dark Gods. Would it be the off-kilter football coach and his death squad of mind-controlled tight ends? The horribly burned Hindi mathematician? The orientalist aesthete with the co-ed cultists? She ended up ritually murdered, but that didn't stop her from finishing up the semester as some kind of undead priestess on the honor roll. Then it got a little weird. |

Death! Debauchery! And We've Only Started the Semester! 2006 De had some kind of scene in the Chancellor's office the next day... something about 'where did your student assistant for the summer go? He's missing." and he revealing to the players that he'd been annoying and not-too-competent and she'd left him in a lime-pit in Greece during a summer field trip. I think she won that one pretty handily, as SHE was also Roached and playing to her master's command (which I can't remember). Finally, Lee jumped us back in time to just after the dancing scene with Margie, out in the garden, trying to seduce ol' Double-D -- whom he was quite fond of (and no, he didn't have the MURUB command -- he was just playing his 'normal' non-Roached hedonist artist.) I managed to avoid this with the help of fellow-jock Bantam Whaley, who drifted by, interrupting Lee's guy taking advantage of DD's drunken stupor, and suggested he and I go looking for coeds "because there's a lot of fruits around here." Word, Bantam. Word. |

Koalas, Incest, and Gunfire 2006 Jeff started things off with a play involving Koalas and incest in the Australian outback. On stage dressed as Koalas and playing the principle rolls were the Colonel and Regina Sutton. Jeff said this was an obvious stab at the Colonel and would be designed to push buttons about his niece once again. The stakes were whether Jeff could convince the cast to go through with obviously screwing over a faculty member with this play or if the Colonel could make everyone uncomfortable and wreck the play. Boy did the colonel try. He first tore apart the script that he was obviously reading from on stage. Declaring it rubbish he ordered the kangaroo suited extras to take up an infantry formation. He declared that the play would now be a re-enactment of a battle near Bangladesh. Regina Sutton began to protest the Colonel's actions as Quincey was trying to calm the situation down and get everyone back in line. To this, the Colonel drew a revolver and leveled it Regina telling her to form up with the others or pay the price. Quincey running damage control is saying things like "He can't shoot that thing it doesn't even work." Colonel fires off a round into the back stage area. "Well, that's just blanks." The screams of the stage director about being shot in the leg follow soon after. Dice were rolled at this point, and Jeff won the stakes. He narrated that in the midst of the chaos Regina Sutton managed to bat her eyelashes and win over the heart of the Colonel. The scene ended with the two kissing passionately on stage and the crowd applauding wildly. |

On This Rock I'll Build My Wing 2006 All in all, I had a really good time, and laughed hella hard. My highlights: -Vera tipping the chancellor from his wheelchair (that I had put him in) into the foundations of the new College wing I coveted, and burying him alive in cement -A really cool scene, that promised to be a mess but somehow worked, where the three of us played Cedric, Justin, Regina Sutton, her brother, his girlfriend, the Reverend, a backroom bar bouncer and the bandleader of a hot jazz group -Cedric's play-within-a-play in the Pemberton follies showcasing our earlier murders to make us crack, Claudius-style -Weedy Justin trying to fix a football game and spending the rest of the game in a full body cast, half due to having to substitute for the opposing side, and half beat by Triads afterwards -Vera sitting through the senate meeting, paralysed by Justin's blowpipe (running up his arm within his cast, natch), with two bodies strung up from the chandelier, and another slumped in another chair - and the senate totally failing to notice |

Poisoner's Day 2006 I played the Roach again last night with three non-gamers. My wife, who is familiar with the game (she's copy editing it), has played Breaking the Ice once and that's about it. Our two friends Dan and Anmar are both actors, writers, and musicians with no recent gaming experience (Dan played D&D in high school). I was worried that it would be difficult to explain and that scene framing would be a huge challenge. It wasn't, and the game hummed along with a few noteworthy differences. |
